Asking which is the best AI is like asking which is the best tool in a toolbox: it depends on the job. This article groups by function, because the names change every few months while the categories hold.
Caveat: this sector moves very fast. Before hiring any service, check its current pricing, licence and commercial-use terms.
For writing and structuring
Language models help to order a brief, propose script structures and generate variants of the same message. Where they should not be used is for facts: they invent figures with complete confidence. They are for thinking, not for research.
For generating images
Useful for storyboards, art references and concept tests. They let you show a client an idea before spending on production. The limit appears when consistency is needed: keeping the same character or the same product across shots remains the hardest part.
For generating video
This is the fastest-moving category and the one that generates the most inflated expectations. Today it works well for short shots, supporting footage and scenes impossible to film. It does not replace a shoot when you need recognisable people, a real product or long continuity.
For voice and audio
Synthetic voiceover, dubbing into other languages, noise clean-up and track separation. The quality jump here has been enormous and the saving is concrete, especially when versioning one piece into several languages.
For post-production
Automatic transcription, subtitling, text-based editing, rotoscoping and assisted colour grading. It is the least glamorous use and the most profitable: it does not change the creative result, but it cuts repetitive hours.
How to choose without getting it wrong
- Start with the bottleneck. If transcription is what slows you down, you do not need video generation.
- Check the licence. Not every tool allows commercial use of what it generates.
- Protect client data. Uploading confidential material to an external service may breach a contract.
- Measure real time. A tool that generates in seconds but needs three hours of fixing saves nothing.
- Disclose what was generated. In institutional communication, transparency about AI use protects credibility.
What AI does not replace
Judgement. Deciding what is worth telling, what to leave out and what tone to use is still human work. AI speeds up executing an idea; it has no way of knowing whether the idea is any good.
